Mexican Chocolate Bars

Ingredients

  1. 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  2. 1¼ cups sugar
  3. 1⅓ Tablespoon cinnamon
  4. 1 teaspoon baking powder
  5. 1 cup (2 sticks) Challenge Unsalted Butter, softened
  6. 1 egg
  7. 1 egg, seperated
  8. 2 Tablespoons water
  9. 1 teaspoon vanilla
  10. 1 (12-oz.) bag (2 cups) semisweet chocolate pieces
  11. ¾ cup chopped walnuts

Directions

  1. Step 1

    Preheat oven to 350° F.

  2. Step 2

    Combine and mix together in a bowl: the sifted flour, 1 cup of the sugar, 1 Tablespoon cinnamon and the baking powder. Set aside.

  3. Step 3

    Beat the butter, 1 whole egg and yolk of another egg, water and vanilla with an electric mixer until well blended. Add dry ingredients and mix well.

  4. Step 4

    Turn batter into a lightly greased and floured 15" x 10" x ¾" jelly roll pan. Spread evenly with spatula.

  5. Step 5

    Beat egg white slightly and brush over mixture in pan. Combine remaining ¼ cup sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, chocolate pieces and nuts. Sprinkle over top.

  6. Step 6

    Bake for 20-25 minutes (don’t overbake). Cool. Cut into bars 2½" x 1".
